Seed Grant Proposal Announcement

The Wealth Income Equity Board of Directors unanimously passed a resolution in March, 2026 to allocate $50,000 to fund seed grant(s) to individuals and small groups in order to incentivize new and emerging cooperatives. The board appreciates that the costs involved with establishing a worker cooperative is likely a barrier for many individuals despite existing lender and investment supports. The intention is to provide financial support that seeds those who have need and would benefit from a modest award.

The organization has assembled an advisory committee comprised of representatives from existing worker cooperatives, a lender and investment organization, a worker cooperative training group and the US Federation of Worker Cooperatives membership organization. The advisory committee will meet this Fall to establish criteria, targets and procedures for review and award of grants. A formal announcement of a request for proposals is planned for after the first of the year with reviews to be completed by Spring and award distributions to commence by mid-2027.
